Sisters of the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (SABS)

The Congregation of the Sisters of the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (SABS) was founded on 8th December 1908 at Champakulam in Kerala, India. This Congregation had its origin from the deep, divine experience of Servant of God, Thomas Kurialacherry, an ardent devotee of the Holy Sacrament. He got the inspiration that our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament should always and everywhere be known, loved and adored by all.

Their Charism is the devotion to the Holy Eucharist which consists in a life of total surrender, result of a deep experience within our heart. To share this Eucharistic love, SABS extends their services in different fields of apostolate. This Congregation spread out in all states of India and in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, England, USA, East Africa, Ukraine and Nepal. They have 17 Provinces and 5 Regions. One is in East Africa. The total number of the members of the Congregation is 5000.

On 18th October 1970, five sisters from Pala Province reached the city of Ujjain. Keeping in mind their special charism and placing trust in the divine providence sisters started to seek new ventures. They had grown slowly and started a Formation House and a Perpetual Adoration House at Chandessary. As the years passed by the mission flourished. The General Synaxis of 1997 decided to raise the mission to the status of a Province. On 22nd March 1998, Jyotirmai Province was erected by Mother Thecla, the then Superior General. Mother Maria Karotemprel was elected the first Provincial Superior. Now the Province has its convents in the Dioceses of Ujjain, Indore, Khandwa, Jhabua, Bhopal, Kalyan and Pala. At present they have 128 sisters and 23 houses including its Provincial House (SABS Provincial House, Navjyoti) in Ujjain. The sisters are engaged in different apostolates - Eucharistic apostolate, education & healing ministry, and social works. Thus the desire of our founder Servant of God, Bishop Thomas Kurialacherry is being fulfilled that the Eucharistic Lord should be known, loved and adored always and everywhere.
